The history of the “Copenhagen Taido Dojo” reaches all the way back to the early seventies. At that time the name of the Dojo was "Gensei-Kan" and the Dojo was Honbu (Head-Dojo) of Gensei-ryu karate in Denmark. The contents of the training at that time were traditional Japanese karate with the addition of a few primitive Taido techniques. In 1985 there were 6 members left in the old club. The same year, the club made contact with Swedish Taido and “Gensei-kan” changed its name to the "Copenhagen Taido Dojo" ( "Dojo": the training area) The following years “Copenhagen Taido Dojo” functioned as a small club, which did not accept new members. In 1993 the "Danish Taido Association" was established and accepted within the international organisation "World Taido Federation" at the same time as the “Copenhagen Taido Dojo” opened its doors to new members. Students from the "Copenhagen Taido Dojo" participate in international trainingcamps and the club is frequently visited by high-ranking instructors from Japan and other foreign countries. There has been Danish participation in all European- and World- Taido Championships since 1991: ETC 1991 - Portugal (The first official EC of Taido) WTC 1993 - Japan (The first official WC of Taido) ETC 1995 - France WTC 1997 - Finland ETC 1999 - Sweden WTC 2001 - Japan (Okinawa) ETC 2003 - Finland WTC 2005 - Sweden ETC 2007 - The Netherlands WTC 2009 - Japan, Hiroshima At the EC in Sweden in 1999, Danish Taido won the first prize in Jissen (individuel fighting) for seniors (Taidoka having reached the age of 35). At the present there is one 6’Dan-Kyoshi, one 4’Dan-Renshi, two 2’Dan and three 1’Dan in Danish Taido . "Copenhagen Taido Dojo" is subsidiary to the "Danish Taido Association" which is the official representitive of Taido, WTF and EUTAI in Denmark. |
